The Owyhee Backcountry Byway

Yay for public lands! We have magnificent desert lands, mountains, and canyons in our own backyard, the Owyhee Canyonlands.  The Owyhee Backcountry Byway is the primary public access to the Owyhee Canyonlands. The Byway runs from Grand View, ID to Jordan Valley, OR. This 104 mile road is a well maintained, mostly dirt road, allowing access with 2WD vehicles when it’s free of snow. Typically it opens up in March.

Evan Worthington is a long time wilderness/river ranger in the Owyhee Canyonlands of BLM’s Boise District. In this month’s presentation, he and his colleague, Heath Elliot, will focus on the Owyhee Byway and access to three wilderness areas from Grand View to Jordan Valley.

The meeting location is the Idaho Fish & Game Headquarters in Boise, at 600 South Walnut Street, Boise 83712.  But you won’t find us at the main front door.  You will use a side door, on the river side, south-east side, of the building). (For someone facing the front entrance to the building, the entrance will be on the right side.)  A club member will be available to open the locked door between 6:30 and 7:00 p.m. that evening.  So please plan to arrive during that half hour.

The Board will also be holding its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. that evening.  Members are welcome to attend.
